What we found in London

In August 2026 we measured 328 London cafés across 24 neighbourhoods — how many reviews they had, how many were answered, and what the answers actually said.

328London cafés measured
57%had replied to none of their recent reviews
16new reviews a month, median
98sentences repeated word-for-word between cafés

The problem isn't only silence

We read 2,907 replies written by London cafés. Ninety-eight sentences appear in them verbatim — same words, different businesses. One closing line turns up at eleven separate cafés.

“We look forward to welcoming you back again soon.”Found word-for-word at 11 different London cafés

Ninety-three of the 161 cafés that do reply share at least one sentence with another café. A reply that could sit under any review, at any business, is the work of none of them. Answering is not the hard part. Sounding like yourself is.

What we will not do

Every reply is checked against those rules before it reaches you — not by a prompt, by a fixed list the writing has to survive.
